Miatas at the Gap 2019
August 1 - August 4
By Mark Hungerman
The Miatas at the Gap event is from 1-4 August, 2019. There is a sunset drive on the 1st that some of you may want to partake in. There are also events on Friday and Saturday. Each driving event is limited to 50 cars, which sounds like a lot until you realize that they had over 560 cars last year.
I’m going up early, driving out the weekend before, and starting my stay on Sunday night, July 28th, checking out on the morning of Sunday, August 4th. I’m staying at the Fontana Resort, the event host hotel and where we stayed last year. Their event room rates are $109 Sun-Th and $119 Fri- Sat for rooms in the Lodge. They are completely sold out of cabins, poolside rooms, and fireplace rooms (larger, I think) already. They have King bed and 2 Queen bed type rooms left, but don’t dawdle on making your reservations. This event sells out the entire resort every year.
This is not a Bluebonnet event, or my event. It’s really the only remaining national Miata driving and social event. If people want me to, I can put together a couple of drives for our group. If you haven’t been there, it’s a really beautiful area, and there are a ton of great roads. If people want to let me know the dates they’ll be there, I can put together a little spreadsheet to see who’s available for whatever on a given day.
The Fontana resort number is 800-849-2248. Mention that you are reserving for Miatas At The Gap to get the room rate. Cancellation outside of 30 days before is $50. Inside of 30 days, you forfeit your deposit, which is your first night’s room cost.
Here’s a few extra ideas for lodging:
From Stephanie Bell-Turner: When I have gone in the past, my friends and I rent a cabin thru here: https://watershedcabins.com/
We usually find a house within 20-30 minutes of DGMR, and it sleeps 2-10 people. I’ve used Watershed three times and highly recommend it!
From Stan Chambers:
If Fontana Village is sold out, Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort ($) and Tapoco Lodge ($$$) usually have rooms available, but they eventually sell out for the weekend.
