Tejas Miata Club – Independence Day Parade

March 2

Let’s join the Tejas, Lone Star and Houston Miata clubs as we represent Miatas in Texas – freedom on the open road!

Parade, lunch and afternoon run
Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 7 AM – 4 PM

Event info to come; parade followed by lunch at Murphy’s Steakhouse in Winchester. Return to Bastrop for an afternoon of fun.

Organizer is James Phelps, Tejas Miata Club

Consider this your curtain call – Texas Miata Clubs have been accepted into the Austin based Texas Independence Day Parade!  All clubs expect to be represented (wow, there are 20 folks coming from the Lone Star Club in Dallas!) Joe and I, along with several other club members, did this in 2012 and it was a great time.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING — WE NEED AN IDEA OF THE NUMBER OF CARS.

The plan is to be in Austin around 7:30 to 8 to group up at Riverside and Congress just south of the River and downtown Austin (more details to come on the exact staging location and time).  First order of business is to decorate our cars with patriotic Texas paraphernalia.  Then we are in the parade — which starts at 9:30 and doesn’t last too long, but is a heck of a lot of fun. After that, the group will head to Winchester Texas for lunch at Murphy’s Steakhouse, 204 Thomas St., Winchester, TX 78945

After lunch you can either head home or join the remaining part of the group for a trip to Bastrop where the group is planning a stop at the Texas Boot Company and then to the historic downtown area for some meandering.

As more details become available, I’ll let you know. For now, find a Hobby Lobby and get your patriotic decorations!

If you plan to attend the Texas Independence Day Parade, here is the staging map where you can park and decorate your car along with the other Miatas. Heading north on I35, take the Riverside Exit and head west (to the left) The staging areas are at the intersection of Riverside and Congress, south of the Congress Street Bridge. The yellow highlighted area is where the Miata’s will be. Right next to bldg 118. On Riverside, look for Thom’s Market a small convenience store on the right side (north) of the road. It’s the buildings just after it. See the Red Arrows on the picture.

Plan to arrive no later than 8:30 to have time to decorate and visit. give me a call if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Cheryl
